Owing to his wealth of experience exceeding 40 years and “his devoted life” to the cinnamon industry; Wijith firmly believed that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) shall not be a bi-product of the core business, but rather it should be an element of the core business. Motivated by this notion, and as the Producer Representative of The Sri Lanka Spice Council, he is the pioneer in within the industry in Sri Lanka. He is acclaimed for revolutionizing the manner, in which cinnamon is processed. Owing to his concern for those involved in the industry he revolutionized the archaic manner of cinnamon processing from “ground-to-table”. This change not only dramatically amplified the “food safety” level of cinnamon produced, but also endowed “the worker” a dignified and relaxed working facility.

DassanayakeWalauwa Plantation was the pioneer in obtaining GMP, HACCP, and ISO 22000:2005, and their latest achievement is achieving the FSSC 22000for their Model Cinnamon Processing and Packaging Factory (All Standard Certificates are obtained from SGS Lanka Pvt. Ltd.) situated in Tourism Zone,Kosgoda, Sri Lanka. But, on no account did he considered parting with the traditional manner of manufacturing Pure Ceylon Cinnamon, rather than “creating” a altered “concept” he revised the age old tradition in order to  “ produce clean,  healthy and Standard certified pure cinnamon to the world in an internationally acclaimed manner.

His passion lays in preserving and strengthening the 2500 years old hereditary cinnamon industry of Sri Lanka. Voluntarily, he has been sharing his experience in GAP with cultivators to enhance the productivity of the cinnamon plantation, and to upgrade the traditional cinnamon processing method to achieve the standard certifications.

He also rendered his consultation services as an “Industrial Expert” to develop National Competency Standards for planting and processing of cinnamon in Sri Lanka.

Wijith’s dream for Sri Lanka’s cinnamon was not only limited to DassnayakeWalauwaPlantation, but he shared a vision for some of the key entrepreneurs of the industry. Sri Lanka Export Development Board, the national authority to develop and promote export trade internationally and nationally, was the first to realize this great passion of Wijith. They were spontaneous to support DassnayakeWalauwa Plantation to develop its own premises as “the model” for cultivating and processing of “quality certified” and “authentic” “pure” cinnamon of Sri Lanka.

In 2014, fifth generation of DassanayakeWalauwa Plantation joins for further strengthening the Management.
